Gustav Klimt Inspired Portraits

Scheme: Klimt inspired portraits.

Second year students

In this scheme students created a self-portrait inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt. Students used photography as source material in the making of their self-portrait paintings. Students utilized the grid method to first map out their portraits. Students explored colour theory and a variety of paint application techniques to create tones, texture, and form in their work. Students created a sense of freedom that Klimt expresses in his work and an uplifting quality that people relate to through their use of vibrant colours and pattern.
